THE BRITISH EMBASSY IN BUCHAREST IS LOOKING FOR A SELF-STARTING AND
ADAPTABLE EU/ECONOMIC OFFICER

Role

The Embassy is looking to appoint a desk officer to work as part of
the 6-strong EU/Economic team. The officer will focus on economic
issues, particularly the economic reform agenda in Romania, and EU
dossiers, in particular the Common Agricultural Policy, Structural
Funds, and the EU Budget.

Main duties and responsibilities include:

Reporting and analysis (written and oral) of economic and EU issues;
Explaining the UK's EU policies to Embassy contacts and partners,
and understanding Romania's own EU agenda
Developing a wide range of economic and political contacts and using
them effectively
Contributing to the delivery of the Embassy's public diplomacy
strategy via public events and speechwriting
Covering for other EU desk officers when required
Candidate

The ideal candidate is expected to have the following qualifications
and skills:

A degree in economics, or an economics-related subject;
Proven analytical skills with a background in economic and political
analysis. EU knowledge/experience would be a distinct advantage
Excellent written and spoken English and Romanian
An ability to deal effectively with Romanian and foreign officials
and organisations and to represent the embassy externally
Proven organisational skills and strong initiative
Ability to get up to speed quickly on issues of substance
We are looking particularly for a self-starter and a team player who
can work without close supervision on multiple tasks and cope with
tight deadlines. We offer the chance to work in an international
environment and to become actively involved in key areas of EU
policy. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about policy
formulation of a large EU member state Government, and the workings
of the EU. The job involves rewarding, interesting work and – for
the right candidate – more responsibility than might be expected at
this level.

This job would particularly suit someone who is looking for an in-
depth grounding in EU policy work or who sees their future in
international public administration.

Gross starting salary: 1,165 euros plus meal tickets.

To apply, please send your CV, accompanied by a cover letter of no
more than two pages of A4 stating clearly and concisely why you
would be suitable for this job, to [EMAIL PROTECTED] by Monday
27 August at latest. Only applicants called for interview will be
contacted.
