The State aid amounts to €411,000,000 and is aimed at maintaining access to coal reserves in the country to ensure energy security of supply. The Commission assessed that the State aid associated with employment, organisational, financial and technical restructuring, will be granted only to production units with the best economic prospects. The Commission has also determined that Romania will gradually reduce its subsidies for the coal sector until the end of the restructuring period. Finally, the overall amount of the aid does not exceed the production costs not covered by revenues from the sale of coal. As the notified aid is in line with EU State aid rules , particularly provisions regarding aid for access to coal reserves, the Commission finds that it is compatible with the proper functioning of the common market. *News date:* October 18th, 2007 *Full information:* RAPID: European Commission gives green light to Romanian State aid for the coal industry<http://www.infoeuropa.ro/docs/IP-07-1551_RO_EN.pdf> *Source:* European Commission Click here<http://www.infoeuropa.ro/ieweb/jsp/page.jsp?cid=108&lid=2&category=news&code=47332Ll11962>to unsubscribe to this category (News and Vacancies).
