Nadia Comaneci launches foundation for young sportsmen, social projects published in issue 4081 page 10 at 2007-12-11 Former world-famous gymnast Nadia Comaneci launched on Monday a foundation wearing her name. The main purposes of this foundation are to offer support to young sportsmen, to perform programs targeted on the mother-and-child issues, but also the co-ordination and financing of several social projects. "The foundation wishes to help young sportsmen who are willing to reach the most ambitious performance standards, to supervise the observance of the laws stipulating the rights of the mother-and-child in Romania, to attend social and charity activities based on the family as a centre of the future evolution of the Romanian society," Nadia Comaneci declared. She expressed her hope that more and more people would join her, in order to perform projects destined to visibly improve the quality of the living circumstances of the youngest members of society. "The future of this country depends on its youth. During my career, I learned that success cannot be achieved without willpower and hard work. On the other hand, the most daring dreams may fall apart if they are not offered adequate support. This is the reason why I try to help young sportsmen to accomplish their dream, to offer them the best conditions in order to reach performances in sport," the great gymnast explained. The first major action of the "Nadia Comaneci" Foundation is its co-operation meant to support the "First Bebe" Project, developed and coordinated by the "Romanian Angel Appeal" Foundation, in order to offer free training classes for parents that are expecting their first child. "There are numerous sources of information on this issue, but I noticed that many of them are doubtful or even contradictory.
