Home & Away: 5th Romanian Film Festival in London An international and polyglot film programme from a festival designed to celebrate Romania 's homecoming into World Cinema.
Home & Away deals with dislocation, longing and belonging, and features documentary subjects and fictional characters navigating between home and elsewhere. For the first time, the program includes a number of works from Romanian filmmakers living and working outside Romania . Home & Away launches on Thursday 10 April 2008 with California Dreamin' (Endless), a cinematic tour de force from late film-maker Cristian Nemescu, awarded the Un Certain Regard in Cannes 2007, and continues with an exciting line-up which includes Cristian Mungiu's (Palme d'Or in Cannes 2007 for 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days) debut film Occident (2002), two shorts sessions from Romania's `New(-est)' Wave, one retrospective session from Mircea Daneliuc (The Cruise, 1981), the most flamboyant and irreverent figure of Romanian cinema of the 1980s, and several creative documentaries ranging from the topical and the political, to the humanistic and the visually mesmerising.
