Building a European partnership for researchers
===============================================
Europe faces increasing global competition for the best and brightest
research talents and demographic challenges. This has led the Commission to
propose a new partnership with Member States. The Commission communication
"Better careers and more mobility: a European Partnership for researchers"
outlines what the EU Member States and the Commission together can do to
ensure that the European Research Area will have the necessary researchers
in the years to come.

National support for unfunded ERC Starting Grants finalists
===========================================================
Through the European Research Council (ERC), the EU is granting €335 million
as part of the ERC Starting Grants aimed at supporting up-and-coming
research leaders. Of the over 9 000 proposals submitted, around 300 will
receive funding. National governments are now stepping in to provide funding
for those projects which passed the ERC quality threshold but could not
receive funding from the ERC budget, provided through the 7th Framework
Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7).
