It has 6 major towns and a population of over 140,000 people. Cahir is located on the South West part of the county. It has a population of 3000 people. It is a very historic town with a castle dating from the early 1700. It's mainly a commercial town with little large industry. It is located 16 km from the largest town in the county, Clonmel which is easily accessible from Cahir on the frequent bus services. Clonmel is a fast growing town in Ireland with a population of over 19000. It is a vibrant town with larger supermarkets and facilities, cinema, theatre, sporting activities, pubs and music. Cahir is much smaller than Clonmel but has good facilities such as smaller supermarkets, banks, chemists, doctors, sport facilities and pubs. Co Tipperary is popular with tourists with many attractions such as the Rock of Cashel, Lough Derg, Cahir Castle, Swiss cottage to name just a few. Cahir and Clonmel are easily accessible by road and bus but the rail link is not very frequent at present . Coaches travelling from Waterford to Limerick and from Dublin to Cork stop in Cahir. Proposed activities for EVS volunteers The TEA, in conjunction with a range of other organisations, is establishing a local Energy Awareness campaign in Co. Tipperary. The EVS volunteer will work with the TEA team to implement the campaign. This will involve - preparing and developing marketing materials for the TEA and the campaign (logos, press releases, contact lists etc.) - organising events relevant to energy (seminars, site visits, conferences) - updating of TEA website - preparation and development of materials for TEA website (www.tea.ie) - development of energy newsletters for the region The volunteer work hours will be 9h00 to 5h30 with 1 hour for lunch Monday to Friday. On very rare occasions, he/she will be asked to work evenings or week-ends but will be given previous notice and will be compensated for the time worked outside of normal office hours. Although the position will be based in our offices in Cahir, there may be also occasional travel with this role. Volunteer profiles and recruitment process The Volunteer will need initiative, ability to work as part of a small team and be innovative in how they address problems. They should have an interest in the environment and energy but their main skills should be in communication, marketing, media. Good organisational skills as well as communication skills will be necessary. Risk prevention, safety and protection TEA organises living accommodation for the volunteer and has used the same house for the past number of years so it is likely that the 2 volunteers will be living in the same house but each will have their own bedrooms. The house is only a 10 mins walk to the office and the town centre and just a couple of minutes away from the town main Sport complex . TEA also, has a safe working office environment with appropriate protections for all staff, kitchen and parking facilities. Motivation and EVS experience The TEA is a multi-faceted working environment which provides an opportunity for EVS volunteers to work on a range of local, national and European activities giving them a good work experience. In addition, because the TEA is a small organisation we can facilitate volunteers in experiencing Ireland's culture and life. The Agency has been welcoming EVS volunteers since 2001 on an yearly basis and we have been happy with each of the EVS volunteers we have hosted. Description of the organisation Our Agency is a local energy agency. There are 15 energy agencies in Ireland. The agency gets involved with Local, National and European Projects on the themes of Energy Efficiency, Renewable energy and Sustainable transport.
