Media freedom - Council of Europe launches essay and photo competition for law 
students

 

Strasbourg, 18.05.2010 – To mark the 60th anniversary of the Convention on 
Human Rights, the Council of Europe, in cooperation with the European Law 
Students Association (ELSA), has launched an essay and photo competition 
targeted at European law students.

 

Under the theme “Our Rights, Our freedoms”, participants may present an essay 
on the role of freedom of speech in democratic societies and it limits, or a 
photo report illustrating the impact in everyday life of the Council of Europe 
human rights protection system, including the European Court of Human Rights.

 

Works may be submitted online until 30 June 2010 at the competition website 
www.ourrightsourfreedoms.org <http://www.ourrightsourfreedoms.org/> , where the 
rules and conditions of the competition can be found.

 

There will be three individual prizes of 3 000€, 2 000€ and 1 000€ in the essay 
category, and three group prizes of 5 000€, 3 000€ and 2 000€ in the photo 
report category. The best entries will be published online and in print by the 
Council of Europe and ELSA.

 

The results of the competition will be announced during the ceremony marking 
the 60th anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights to be held in 
the autumn in Strasbourg.
