That is an interesting idea. I think what we're going to do, though, is introduce some middle ground between "delete logs immediately" and "you're on your own." In the near future I will add a way to let you select how long you want the logs to remain on disk, and the default will probably be 7 days, or maybe 14 days. Long enough that a reasonably well maintained site will have performed a couple of backups by the time a log file is deleted.
