Hmm, there seems to be a correlation between my Aide room problems and the SMTP problem.
IG, I see the place I missed for unlocking. Now the situation I've seen in my box was that the SMTP thread got stuck constantly bouncing a message that was undeliverable. the address it was trying to bounce to was "[email protected]" which originated from a misconfigured piece of software as a reply to address. My SMTP thread had not exited so it was justifiably locked. I think there is more to this problem than just the lock I used.
