    [CABMAN] Do not use tmpfile() because it does not work well on Windows XP
    
    - Use tempnam() and fopen() instead.
    - Prevent the use of file names with a leading slash or backslash.
    - Also prevent the use of file names with a trailing dot.
    - Remove temporary files after use.
