Here's my experience on Rational's Cert Tests.
First you must submit an application, and listed industry experience. If
accepted,
Then you must have taken the recent Rational UML/OOAD course (4-days)
Version 4.2.
I don't recall the cost on that one... It wasn't cheap.....
For Consultant-Level You must complete the following exams:
-RUP 40 ish questions ( I can't remember the number)
-OOAD Part I 104 Questions
-OOAD Part II 72 Questions
-Rational Rose Don't know yet, haven't taken it, but its listed 50 ish
Questions?
Each one is a separate test. You take the tests via the web. Each
test costs $295, and gets you 2 tries to pass within a 2 week period. When
you pay, Rational gives you a logon/password, and the url to the site. To
take the test you login to the site. If you get disconnected before
completing the test, from the web during a session, that costs you a try.
If you do not score 80% or above within the two tries, you gotta pay
again. Rational only considers 80% and above as passing. I have not got
feedback on right/wrong answers. Possibly get that when I've finished all
of them. Instructor will be next for me.....
IMHO, the *suggested* time allotments are GROSSLY underestimated. RUP took
me 4hrs+ first time. OOAD P1 took 5hr+, OOAD P2 4hrs+, and I have been a
student in the Rational Instructor Courses, have the course material as well
as the UML book, RUP & Rational Rose Installed. I've been in the OO
business since '90.
One thing stated earlier that is very true, is if you've learned
OOAD/Modeling techniques from some else before Rational/UML, it is a bit
more difficult.
Rational/UML doesn't see things quite the same, and you can get burned on
some of the questions....

I would be interested in getting Certified, however, I'm disabled and must
rely on the Web for and courses I take. I would think that Rational would
want to take advantage of 'distance' learning (giving classes over the Web)

consultant, and I am working on the Instructor certification.

Yes, Rational does have a Consultant Level certification, and Instructor
Level Certificaion. You must complete Consultant before Instructor.
