Title: RE: (ROSE) Comparing RUP and MSF

Hi Teguh

I've been working with RUP through a couple of projects. Currently I'm working in a company that are using MSF.

There's many facets on the question of RUP vs. MSF.
A good whitepaper
I can see that you already have got a link to a whitepaper at Rationals web-site.
(http://www.rational.com/products/whitepapers/389.jsp) This is a good article that can give you many constructive inputs.

My overall view
RUP pro
- Good solid process description
- Builds on actual experience

RUP cons
- Many process-users conceive of/think of
RUP as way too big and non-scaleable

MSF pro
- Team of peers organization
- Product focus

MSF cons
- Not really a process description
- Extremely poor modeling focus
- MSF definition of functional specification suck!

As I see it MSF very fast becomes a pseudo-process. You really dont get much process help from MSF.

As I see it you must be very much aware of taking care of modeling, traceability, the control aspect etc. when dealing with MSF.

This is a very short version of my experiences with RUP and MSF.

Subject: (ROSE) Comparing RUP and MSF

Hii ..

Our organization implemen Microsoft Solution Framework for our software
development, but now we want to use RUP.
In the MSF documentation, we use Functional Specification and Design
Specification as the documentation in the Analysis and Design phase.

Anybody can help us describing the weakness and strongness of both
methodology ?
As I know, MSF is still use DFD, ERD in their MCSD exams. Do they implemen
Rational Rose ? or will design another tools  (as Rational Rose) ?

thanks

teguh
