But I'm sorry, I have to oppose.
If I accept what you say, then at least Rose is inconsistent. Because for standard 
stereotypes like <<actor>>, <<boundary>>, <<entity>>,... the icon is shown on the 
interaction diagrams. I don't know, whether this is UML or not.
Second, in UML the standard shape of an object is the same like the one of a class. 
Object and class differ by the notation of their name. So, it would be consequent, if 
the shape of the class changes, to let also change the shape of the objects.

No, that is generally the case as you are modeling the instances of the
class not the classes themselves. The icon is a representation of the
stereotype as it is applied to the class, the stereotype is not applied to
the object therefore no icon. Hope that makes sense its a UML-ism and not
obvious I know.
