No, the defaults I want to change are in the ANSI C++ Component
Specification reached from the ANSIC++ right click menu (containing FILE,
Style, Internal Map, External Map, Includes).  The defaults I am interested
in particular are the style and root directory values.

I think what you want is to click on the Edit Set button from the ANSI C++
tab in the Component Specification dialog.
