The two best books on the subject, IMHO, are 'Writing Effective Use Cases'
by Alistair Cockburn (www.usecases.org), and my current favorite, 'Advanced
Use Case Modeling' by Frank Armour & Granville Miller. These should provide
all of the theory and excellent practical advice you'll need.
