Hi Christine,
If you are planning to develop using components and have chosen EJB as your
component standard, then MVC is one you might want to study first. The
Reference Implementation (i.e. Sun's implementation of their Reference
Architecture) is based on MVC. Its called the Java Petstore.
The model-view-controller architectural pattern basically separates entities
(the model) from their presentation (the view) and uses software agents
to keep the two in synch (the controller).
Patterns are usually combined, so don't be looking for either/or decisions.
Back to the Petstore - they combine MVC with 4 Tiers: Client, Web, EJB and
EIS (the one that gets to connect/adapt existing legacy resources for
reu$e).
As far Analysis Mechanisms go, I believe the basic idea is that you don't
want to specify how a nonfunctional requirement should be accomplished
(that's design work) - you just want to identify the characteristics
required to meet the URPS requirements.
