QUESTION:
When I attempt to generate a report containing information about my Oracle8 model in
Rose I
get a blank document. What am I doing wrong?
ANSWER:
Consider a model that contains a few (oracle8) tables. It is possible to generate a
report
for this model by selecting the Tools->Oracle8->Reports menu selection. However,
sometimes
when you try to generate a report in this fashion you will end up with a blank
document.
This is because you do not have your tables mapped to a schema component (a component
with a
<<Schema>> stereotype. If you do encounter this problem then the way around it is as
follows:
1. Do a Tools->Options and look under the Notation tab. Make sure that the Default
Language is set to Oracle8.
2. Create a component in your model and set its Stereotype to be Schema.
3. Create classes in your model, stereotype them as desired and then map them to the
<<Schema>> component that you created in the last step. You can map your classes to
the
<<Schema>> component from the component specification's Realizes tab or by simply
dragging
the classes over to the component in the browser. A class that is mapped to the
component
will appear in the browser as follows:
Class Name (Component Name)
4. Now select the Tools->Oracle8->Reports menu selection. You can opt to generate a
report
that sorts the classes either by Class Name or by Stereotype. Check all of the desired
options and click OK. A text report will be generated. The generated report will
have a
.or8 extension.
Note how only the classes that are mapped to the Schema component are included in the
generated report. In the earlier case when a blank report was generated this probably
happened because no classes in the model were mapped to a Oracle8 <<Schema>> component.
