I don't recall when Petal version 44 came into use but I bet it was after 98i. Check out the pty files that come with Rose 98i and try using one of those. You'll probably have to alter your pty file a little bit. As I recall there were some additional settings. I think Eric Aker has a chart or reference of when certain petal versions came into being.
