Arne, I am the Rational mentor for Lockheed Martin in Colorado. We have a multi-site (5) project with 150+ developers and Systems Engineers using Rose to devlop the project. The number of classes is enormous but managable in the way that I have developed to handle the tasks at hand: 1) Our project is split into 5 sofware devlopment groups with sub groups of 3 or more in each. 2) Each SG has their own models / cat files / documentation 3) For all SG's we have developed a clearcase structure that is consistent across all SG's 4) If the Sg provides a common interface or some type of reusable cat file they put it into a directoory called interafaces provided. Also in this dir is a doc to explain the uses and reasons for the interfaces. 5) Rember how CURDIR works as it is imperitive for multi OS development processes. 6) We have now taken the structure of the seperate SG .mdl's and created a meta model(complete) of the entire project to do consiostency checking between all of the sg's using a combonation of rose scripts an d SoDA templates. My suggestions are as follows to make a clean effort into the Rose world: 1) Make sure you know the requirements of the project and enfore the standards of them on your developers. 2) Creating additional .pty files for additional flexability in the tool is essential in a large environment so as to make code generation and tracability a feasable task. 3) Make sure your developers are educated on the use of the tool and how models should be structured to create the desired end product you are working on. 4) Communication between SG's is very important as on SG will know how to fix/work a problem because they have done it/ ran into it before. > A. Anybody at all ? What are your experience ? How do you structure the tool (browser/mdl/cat-files etc.) to make Rose work _well_ in a multiuser environment (using a 3rd party configuration management tool (Clear Case, Source Safe, PVCS etc.) off course) (I'm very well familiar with the contolled unit-mechanism on the package level). What I'm looking for in specific is how you split large systems into smaller manageable pieces (beyond the contolled unit-paradigme)? Do yu work on several .mdl-files pr. system, or one mdl-file pr. system/project. How do you structure for re-use between projects/products/departments etc. (through .cat-files I suppose ?)? etc. etc. Looking forward to hear from you !
