A file lock that refuses to unlock is usually caused by a networking problem
where the fileserver never receives notice that the process on the node is
done. The timeout to reset a file lock may vary from minutes to a couple
days depending on the file systems and networking involved. Canceling a bad
file lock may or may not be possible (e.g. not possible using a Windows NT
file server without a reboot, must wait for timeout (2 hours)).
Since this recurs, you may want to configure each Rose install to not lock
the files it loads. That reduces a protection, but is redundant if you are
already using a configuration-management/version-control system with no
shared working directories. The setting for Rose 2001A is in the Registry
under:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Rational Software\Rose\Rose
...setting is:
LockFiles = 'No' ('Yes' is the default)
In previous versions of Rose this setting was kept in the rose.ini (warning,
there may be several rose.ini files on a user's system. The one Rose uses is
under each user's profile, or for Unix, in "~/.rose.ini").

Subject: (ROSE) Rose model locking problem
All,
We are having a reoccurring problem with one of our rose models being
locked. The error is a follows: <foo>.mdl is locked the process is being
used by another operation. The model did this while being used by only one
person and no other operations were being done against the model, i.e. SoDA,
Rose Script... Please advise as to an easy remedy to this I hope. We have
already copy all information out of the model and created a new model once
on Friday and it now is happening again.
