You can switch to a sequence diagram and insert the message. Then, just
switch back to a collaboration diagram.

We are in the process of writing collaboration diagrams at the moment for
our
eBusiness project and have noticed that changing the sequence of system
messages once a number of them have been included in a diagram is to say the
least a bit tedious.
If you want to insert a new message part way through it seems you have to
delete any messages below and then re-insert them.
Does anybody know of a way to do this simply and easily?
