You can use compare and sync and it will show you just the differences and
allow you to import them into the data model.

For entering the size on a column, you can open the column specification by
either selecting it in the table specification and a double click or by
double click on the column itself in the Model Browser (tree).

Hi ,

A colleague of mine is having a problem with using the Data Modeler in Rose
2001A (see below for his email). I wonder if any of you have encountered a
similar problem and if you did how did you solve it?
Thanks in advance.

Misbah

Hi,
I wonder if you can kindly solve a problem I'm experiencing in Rational
Rose in respect of recording database table and column details.

I've recently reversed engineered a large database into Rational Rose, and
have now reached the stage where I wish to "catch up" the Rose Case tool
with recent changes made to the physical database, since commencing the
reverse engineering.

This obviously means I need to key in new tables, columns and foreign key
relationships.

Having started to key in my first new table, I'm experiencing a most basic
problem which I cannot resolve. I've double checked the problem with a
colleague to ensure I'm not missing something really simple here - and they
experience exactly the same results.

What we are seeing:-

Having reversed into the tool hundreds of tables (and thousands of columns)
it is noticeable that within DataModel diagrams we have produced, that
reverse engineered tables list the the column names, their format and their
sizes, in brackets, e.g. CLIENT_REFERENCE: NUMBER(22, 0).

In viewing the table and columns within the Table Specification however,
only the format is displayed, e.g. NUMBER.
I cannot find the column size recorded anywhere.

My problem:-

I wish to record the column format and size for each column within a table
I'm keying into Rose.
I can get the Rose tool to accept the format by simply keying this after
the column name within the diagram - but whenever I attempt to key the size
of the column it simply does not accept it.

I've searched all the various Table Specification and Column Specification
screens - and cannot find a way to do this - I've found how to input a
default value, but this is not what I need! :-)

I'd be grateful to receive your guidance,

Regards,
John.
