Don is right - perhaps doesn't explain clearly enough
- UML is a design notation. You do things like drawing
class diagrams, state-diagrams, and sequence diagrams
in it.
- CORBA is a platform technology. You can think of it
as a layer on top of the operating system that handles
data-passing and logical connections between
applications running on different machines.
Both UML and CORBA are industry standards, managed by
the OMG http://www.omg.org/
Typically you would use UML to do the design, perhaps
using a tool like Rose (www.rational.com) or ARTiSAN
(www.artisansw.com). From the design, you would
generate Java, and perhaps IDL (the CORBA Interface
Description Language)
