A class diagram and a data model are two different things. A class diagram shows the relationships between classes which are defined as a set of objects that share the same operations, attributes, methods, relationships, and semantics.. A data model shows the differences between entities which are defined as a person, place, thing, concept, or event that is relevant to the enterprise. The process (or methodology) one goes through to develop a class diagram is different than the process (or methodology) one goes through to develop a data model (entity relationship diagram). Having said that, you certainly can model an entity relationship diagram with the UML notation, and yes Rose supports it. There are some good white papers on the Rational site that go into detail on how to model entities, attributes, and relationship using the UML notation.
