Please, please, please can I ask everyone to practice a bit more email
etiquette!

This message was over 3,000 lines and 136K long!! And the entire new
content needed less than 25 lines and ~960 to write! That's about 0.7%
new interesting content, and 99.3% repeated, quoted content and HTML
crap.

!!

First, please don't keep "replying with attachments", attaching all the
previous messages. One thing that can help you remember this is
avoiding "top posting" (where you reply with the entire message, then
just add your comments at the top). If you want to reply to a specific
point, include just those few lines from the original message needed to
make your reply clear, and put your reply to those points _below_ the
quoted lines (this helps you notice how much you are quoting).

Second, and even more importantly, please turn off HTML-ized, or
so-called "Rich Text", formats in your mail clients. These work by
sending a plaintext copy of your message, then _also_ sending a version
which has HTML commands added. Because the poor job clients usually
make of adding HTML, this usually more than _triples_ the size of your
message over plain text version, to say exactly the same thing. Email
is a textual medium; there's no need for all the HTML bells and
whistles.

Not only are they not needed, they're often very detrimental. I use a
dark background and light foreground in my mail reader, for example, and
I can't tell you how many times I've not been able to read a "Rich Text"
message because the sender decided to get fancy and set their foreground
color themselves, rather than letting me choose what color I want to
use. They often choose a dark blue or dark green, or even black, and so
to me their message is unreadable or even looks totally empty! Remember
you're writing for the benefit of your readers, not for your own
edification. Think of them and let them view your message as best works
for _them_, not you.

If you don't know how to disable HTML/"Rich Text" format in your mail
client, this page should tell you how to do it for just about any mail
client:
