Colin, we are talking here about Raitonal Rose for RealTime.  For information on RRT, please refer to:

RRT supports some UML modeling constructs that are particularly useful in the real-time embedded world.  These include capsules (a type of active object that maintains its own thread of control), ports (think of these as interfaces by which capsules communicate), and signals.  RRT also supports the generation of full source code from state machines, and automated debugging of the created application, by animating the UML model as the application executes.  There are a lot of other nifty features in RRT.

An embedded solution is one that initially is created in a "host" environment, such as Windows or Unix, then deployed to the "target", which generally is some type of microchip in a device such as a PDA, a cell phone, or one of the innumberable chips that run modern automobiles.

Subject: (ROSE) Embedded

Hi,

Could somebody help me with a definition of what Rational means by the expression "Embedded Development". I see the Rational Embedded Development Solution, which includes Rational Rose, mentioned in press releases in conjunction with Real-Time Development.

What is the Embedded version of Rose, and how does it differ from the standard version?

Regards
