We are using a symbol with & Actual route as well just as CURDIR, and when placing
physically external docs
at the same level or under a cat file, & is actually translated into the mdl path
instead of the
cat file path as we know it works with sub-cat files.

For instance:

Z:\Models\Mymodel.mdl
Z:\Models\Application\MID.cat
Z:\Models\Application\Docs\M1.doc

MID.cat file has a link to M1.doc, when saved and examined with an editor it tries to
link
with Models\Docs\M1.doc which does not exist because & was translated into the mdl
path.

Moreover if all external doc files are located into a Models\Docs folder, then when
linking external docs to
cat files and saving them no translation is possible (the translation is carried out
only when linking docs to the
mdl itself), and therefore a hard coded route is all we have so it is not feasible to
load it
properly in different user views.

Is this a bug or is this a workaround to this? Any help from Rose support members?

Best regards,
Alfonso

I encountered a similar problem with managing links to external documents.
For reference, I am using Rational Rose Enterprise 2002. I only use the
"$CURDIR=&" path map.

note: you can think of the .mdl model file not just .cat files as controlled
units for this discussion.
This suggestion is for a larger model with several packages in Rose saved on
your hard drive as controlled unit files. In Rose, you want to put an
external document link under a package that is also a controlled unit. On
your hard drive, that external document must be in the same folder as the
controlled unit file or a subfolder below the controlled unit file.

The thing to remember is in Rose if you add an external document link under
a controlled package, be sure to physically put that external document in
the same folder or a sub folder on your hard drive as the controlled unit
file. If you do this, you can copy or zip the entire model and put it
somewhere else and the external documents links should stay relative.

Probably as clear as mud, but I hope it helps.

Nolan

Use PathMaps in Rose for this. The online help should get you going.

Subject: (ROSE) manage links to external docs

hi all
my Rose model has several external docs linked to it
When you link an external doc, the pathname of the external file is
absolute.
By this way, if you move the model, the pathnames of the external docs
should be
changed and that it's really time consuming
Does anyone know if it's possible to make them relative ?
Would it be possible to use a environment variabile ?
Thanks, bye
