There is often confusion between Business Use Cases and SystemUse Cases. The Business Use Case is the product of Business Modeling while the System Use Case is the product of System Requirements Modeling. Both are requirements documents with similar structure but with very different goals and contents.
The primary differentiator between the two is the boundary that they define. The boundary between Business Actors and Business Use Cases is the boundary of the organisation being modeled. eg. the Company boundary. The boundary between an Actor (System) and Use Case (System) is the system (typically computer) being modeled. A Business Use Case details the interactions between the Business Actor and Organisation focusing on the value rather than function. The Business Use Case does not refer to the "way" or "who by" but rather the "what" needs to done to ensure that Business actor gets what they want. (Business Use Case Realisations discuss the how in terms of workers, entities and detailed interactions/workflows). When I refer to "Business Requirements", it is those requirements written in a BUC. It states what must be done by a worker in the organisation, whether automated (a system) or not (manual), to meet the business's needs. The system use case documents the interations between actors and the system and details what the system has to do from an actors perspective. There is many to many relationship. Hope this helps. Ivar Jaccobson's book, "An Object Advantage" and the Rational Unified Process both discuss BUC's, while RUP also details system UC. If you would to see a simple example of a Business Use Case, send me an email directly. regards Glen Tattersall Principal Consultant Rational the software development company Level 2, 459 Collins St Melbourne VIC 3000 Australia Phone: +61 3 9613 9600 Fax : +61 3 9613 9699 Mob : 043 89 22224 -----Original Message----- From: GZ MIS - Kent Liu [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, 17 July 2002 11:12 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: (ROSE) Use Case To my knowledge, I guess business use case is refer to business module. After study the user requirement, then can get some business modules that all combine to be the whole business rule. Then the use case is the each scenario of the business use case. If using UML diagram, I guess can make the relation as below: ----------------------------- 1..n 0..n ----------------- |Business Use Case| -------------------------------------|Use Case| ----------------------------- ----------------- Can anyone teach me does this right or not ?
