Hello Rose Forum, As the Rose Forum Owner, I am pleased to announce the replacement of the old Majordomo list server. Let me introduce Marc Siegel who is spearheading the migration of the Rose Forum list to the enhanced Rational Developer Network. I'll let him take it from here...
I work for Rational supporting online discussions. I am writing to share important information about the future of this list: in April/May timeframe, we will be consolidating this list with a similar Rose community on Rational Developer Network (RDN). This migration will provide a lot of benefits: * RDN has a more flexible interface, providing access either through the Web or email * one cohesive group is better then two similar groups split * RDN surrounds discussions with helpful articles, Getting Started guides, extensions and web-based training * rose_forum archives as far back as 1999 will be visible and searchable on RDN (~April) * improvements will allow constrained searches within a single discussion group or to a particular date range (~April) As part of this shift, we'll transition this list from the current majordomo technology to the discussion interface on Rational Developer Network. I am writing now, months ahead of the transition, because I want to give this community as much heads up as possible, and to start a dialogue about this change. I'd like to understand how the rose_forum community views this impending change, to surface issues which will impede a smooth changeover, and to work those issues to best serve the community's needs. Here's some background about the drivers and process for this user group migration. For more then a year, Rational Developer Network has been emerging as Rational's strategy for supporting customers in making more effective use of Rational products. So it follows that this Rose forum would wind up on RDN, surrounded by related helpful information. Recently we rolled out new functionality at RDN that enabled posting via email. Before that, the inability to post via email was a shortcoming that prevented us from proceeding with a migration earlier. Additional discussion functionality is in development to improve searching and support for the historical archive of rose-forum posts. Once these improvements are in place, we'll proceed with moving rose_forum to RDN. ***Currently RDN is for active customers only. We believe that most participants of rose-forum are in that category. However, if you are now part of the rose_forum community yet are without an active maintenance contract, then we will consider grandfathering you in and providing you an RDN account. Send me (Marc - [EMAIL PROTECTED]) a paragraph or two explaining your situation and relationship with Rational products. ***Currently RDN is for active customers only. We believe that most participants of rose_forum are in that category. To take advantage, visit the following special registration page: www.rational.com/rdn/discussions. Finally, we are open to working with the rose_forum community about transitioning to RDN ahead of schedule if ya'll think it is a good idea. If the community is so excited about the benefits of moving to RDN (more flexible interface, joining of rational.com and RDN brethren, surrounded by articles, extensions and classes) let's talk about how to make it happen before April/May. In closing, I hope you will get engaged in this transition. Please take a moment to visit RDN (www.rational.net) and explore the discussion area a bit. If you want to play with the interface, consider posting in the "Reserved for Testing" area. Or even better, start tracking the "Rational Rose" discussion. In this way you'll be able to surface real issues with the transition, hopefully with enough time to effect change. As additional incentive to visit RDN, you'll now find there a limited-time promotion for free Web-based Training. For now I'll put my listening cap on and prepare to be flamed... Yours, Marc Siegel RDN Community Manager Footnote from the Rose Forum Owner -- please send questions and concerns about the migration to Marc. I will continue to manage the list as long as it remains on Majordomo but cannot answer specific questions about the migration. -- Greg Buhtz -- Rose Forum Owner ************************************************************************ * Rose Forum is a public venue for ideas and discussions. * For technical support, visit http://www.rational.com/support * Only plain-text messages are supported. * HTML or Rich-Text messages may be rejected. * * Post or Reply to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] * Subscription Requests: [EMAIL PROTECTED] * Archive of messages: * http://www.rational.com/support/usergroups/rose/rose_forum.jsp * Other Requests: [EMAIL PROTECTED] * * To unsubscribe from the list, please send email * To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] * Subject: <BLANK> * Body: unsubscribe rose_forum *************************************************************************
