We are in the early phases of formulising a software team that will use
Rational Rose as a modeling tool. we are currently using Rational Rose Prof
C++ edition Version Release 2001.03.00 which contains rose version
7.1.9642.27.
We are having diffculties in running the tool as a multi-user application.
We are runnuing the Rational Rose through Rational Clearcase which is a
Configuration Management tool.
In Rational ClearCase each user could work in a dynamic or Snapshot view.
We initially tried the Dynamic view, however encountered annoying error
messages when say one of the Multi-user updated a Package of the Rose model.
We found some references in the Help files of Rational Rose which suggest
that in a Multi-user environment the ClearCase SnapShot view should be used.
This however, saves each persons view on the Local PC drives (there are no
options provided by Clearcase to allow the view to be mounted to a netwrok
drive - a cause for concern in my view).
The Problem: If a change is made to a package which affects other packages,
for instance changing the sterotype of a class in the Logical View and this
package is then checked back into clearcase. The rest of the model has
appeared to update correctly, for example, the display of a the class in a
sequence diagram in the Use Case View will have been updated to use the
sterotype icon. However, if Rose is closed and opened again this update has
been lost outside of the Logical View package.
What are we doing wrong?
