Ok, this is something of a common request actually. You have to bear in mind that our primary objective is making it easy for people to get up and running with device stuff but there is definitely also a need for "expert mode" where we only get as far as creating our own ALSA ports and no further. This is so that people like yourself and people (say) using LADCCA can have all the control they want. I suggest you submit a feature request. I'm currently in the middle of working on a JACK-control state which works along similar lines - our default behaviour currently is to connect to JACK and then set up some default audio connections - again some people want to have an advanced mode with this whereby they can use qjackconnect (or whatever) to do this themselves.
