For the OP's info, I'm running kernel 2.4.20 (Debian source, self-compiled)
and ALSA 0.9.3c.

The ALSA source was installed as a Debian (testing) package a bit back. I
notice there's new source for 0.9.4 that I got as part of some update or
other, but I have never compiled it. My ALSA utils are 0.9.4, but my libs
are definitely still 0.9.3c.

Everything works perfectly well. Maybe there's some problem with 0.9.4 libs
and Rosegarden due to an API change or something. Just a thought.
