I'm not following this, really, but I've been building with gcc 3.3 for many 
moons now, without jumping through any special hoops.  I'm not sure what my 
version might have been in the past, but the one I've got today is 3.3.1, and 
I did a distclean rebuild earlier this morning uneventfully.
