I seem to have come across some wackitude on Rosegarden's MIDI output. In Rosegarden 4-0.9.2cvs, built July 12 2003, MIDI note-offs get sent twice for the same note. I'm concluding this by using a simple PD patch which prints MIDI note-on events. For each note, the zero-velocity note-on event gets received twice.
This is through an ALSA virmidi connection. I verified that it doesn't happen through a regular external MIDI port. The leads me to conclude that this is most likely either a problem in the ALSA virmidi, or in rosegarden, as opposed to being a problem in how I'm setting up my test in PD. Before I get too carried away with this, hopefully someone will say that yes this is a known bug and just get the latest CVS and all will be fine. It's actually not a big deal for me, and I can work around it myself, but if there's really a problem here, I can see this sort of thing causing all sorts of weird problems with applications that don't handle this pathological case very well. And the cause might be very difficult to track down without knowing what one is looking for. If this _isn't_ a known problem, I guess I should dig further, huh? Is there a simple command-line MIDI-event printer that I could try, to verify that it's not some problem with PD (although based on my PD experience, I doubt it)?
