as both KGuitar and NoteEdit are open source projects, the sourcecode is 
available, if you're interested. KGuitar can be found at 
http://kguitar.sourceforge.net/ (see musicxml.cpp), NoteEdit at 
http://rnvs.informatik.tu-chemnitz.de/~jan/noteedit/noteedit.html (see 
musicxmlimport.* and musicxmlexport.*).

So far my experience has been that import/export is very tightly coupled to 
the internal data structures of the underlying program, and therefore almost 
impossibly hard to port.

If you like, I could supply either the information on what needs to be 
changed to generate valid MusicMXL or send you changed files or diffs. 
Probably the only files that need changes are musicxmlio.*.
