I was trying to use Rosegarden to actually accomplish something creative and
musical. Can you believe it?
New doc, draw a segment in track 1 about 30 bars long. Select 8th note, hit
step record from the notation editor... I got a couple dozen notes into it
before RG took a dump.
My build is a couple days old, incidentally, but it was done completely clean
(uninstall, distclean, Makefile.cvs, configure, make, install).
This doesn't look good. I re-ran from the console. This is what I get on
stderr:
rosegarden: element is a rest
rosegarden: note type 6, dots 0, multiplier 5.2, gap 104
rosegarden: getStartOfQuantizedSlice returned 30720 from 30720
rosegarden: bar 8, startBarOfStaff 0, newTimeSig false
rosegarden: NotationHLayout::scanStaff: bar 8, from 30720, to 34560 (end
34560); from is at 30720, to is at -1
rosegarden: element is a rest
rosegarden: note type 6, dots 0, multiplier 5.2, gap 104

I got tired of waiting for gdb after 30 minutes, so this is all the trace I
have. Looks to me like RG is killing itself gracefully due to an internally
detected bug, but you know more about this stuff than I do by leaps and
bounds:
(gdb) where
#0 0x4131f571 in kill () from /lib/libc.so.6
#1 0x41021761 in pthread_kill () from /lib/libpthread.so.0
#2 0x41021a6b in raise () from /lib/libpthread.so.0
#3 0x4131f324 in raise () from /lib/libc.so.6
#4 0x41320838 in abort () from /lib/libc.so.6
#5 0x41105387 in __cxa_call_unexpected () from /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5
#6 0x411053c4 in std::terminate() () from /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5
#7 0x41105536 in __cxa_throw () from /usr/lib/libstdc++.s
This always-on-top Transport has GOT to go, BTW.
Trying this from the matrix, it's working. So far, so good. Seems to have
been a drawing problem. BTW, none of the step recorded notes ever showed up
on the staff. Got status messages like "adding note" "updating score"
"adding note" "updating score" but no notes ever appeared.
Well, I'm inspired. I'm going to dick around with this little idea for
awhile.
