Oh, definitely. I mean wow. Gack. It's completely useless at the moment. I've tried starting/stopping everything and so forth, to no avail. It doesn't affect audio recording/playback as far as I can tell; even with several LADSPA plugins. What it does affect are any kind of CPU-based synthesizers. The DSSI plugins, and more conventional soft synths too. They're all exhibiting the same symptoms. Get this now... They're all responding to the GUI. I just finally figured out the pattern. Rosegarden playing moves a lot of things on the screen, so it makes a lot of noise. Hiding the window reduces the noise dramatically. It never quite goes away. I still get some crackles out of XSynth, like a real synth with a loose connection somewhere inside. GUI events make the crackle much worse, but it's not RF noise. I know what RF noise sounds like, and this isn't it. It's something else. Something with too much bus traffic maybe? I wonder if running in realtime mode would solve this? I do have AGNULA's kernel installed, but I still don't quite know what to do with it if I boot it. But there again, why would it start up all of a sudden like this? I've played with these things lots of times before, running the same kernel/hardware/software I'm running now. Could it somehow be because I'm using much more memory than usual? I've got 14 Open Offices, a GIMP, RG, QSynth, Hydrogen, QJackCtl, three Cervisias, some Konquerors, and who knows what all my wife and kids are running. They're both logged into terminals. Maybe I need to kick everybody off and try again. But... Changing to "buffered" mode instead of "low latency" mode does make this problem several times worse, so there's some Rosegarden component here too, I think.
