Newer versions of dssi-vst (such as I'll be releasing soon to coincide 
with the next DSSI release) will avoid running Wine at all if there 
are no likely-looking DLLs in your VST path, and so will be much 
safer to leave installed on systems in which VSTs aren't being used, 
or don't actually work for incomprehensible Wine-related reasons.
