Ok, that's not too old although the current gcc is 3.4.3 (be careful
if you do ever upgrade gcc because you will need to get kde/qt packages
that were compiled with the identical version of gcc)

That's ok (latest version is kde-3.3.3).

I don't know if that's the cause of your trouble but 1.4 is very old.
There is automake-1.9.4

I think you should upgrade your Linux distribution to a modern version.
Check you also have liblo-0.15, dssi-0.9, and jack-audio-connection-kit-0.99.0.
