According to my compile problems and the following silence I tried some changes:The second release candidate for 1.0 is now available.

I haven't even had time to test this one from the tarball myself yet and I have to go out in a minute, but please go ahead and give it a go anyway.
1. configure does not check, whether $HOME/bin/perl is a file or directory. I had a directory of this name and configure recognized it as perl interpreter
2. after unusing g77 packages the compile problem was still there
3. I also uninstalled gettext (msgfmt) package and the whole KDE SDK (due to package dependencies) and rerun make: works
