There is a native Darwin KDE, but it doesn't have kdemultimedia and hence is useless for Rosegarden. The fink version is, it seems to me, better, and indeed you can get a Rosegarden from Fink, but its functionality is severely limited for the same reason. It also runs on X which is a blight because of its poor interaction with the Darwin window manager (you are listening to an unhappy Linux convert). If this were a desktop machine, I'd *definitely* be dual booting it, but space is relatively limited on the laptop's hard drive. I carry too much junk around, I guess.Speaking for
myself, I avoid KDE generally and tend to write mostly in Qt (with
qmake) or java these days, so it was all probably my fault. Blame the
purchase of this damned stupid PowerBook ("it really is Unix" -- yes,
Jim, but not as we know it. Can't run KDE for a start :). It does do Qt
and Java quite well? not well, but prettily. I've learned my lesson
now. Linux ia32 for the laptop next time.
Er, I know of at least one KDE dev who has a powerbook (Georges Staikos), and
he runs both OS/X and Linux/KDE on it. Anyway, now that scons is shaping up,
we'll hopefully be able to do without the autocrap soon.
There are a couple of French Erasmus (exchange) students showing up next month. I am thinking of getting one of them to get a kdemultimedia working on top of Apples Core Audio. We asked the KDE/Darwin guys about this: they say they don't know their way around Core Audio very well, and that they are sort of waiting for KDE 4 to be issued anyway. So don't hold your breath :) But who knows, it might come to something useful...
Guess I'll have to brush up on my KDE stuff then! Not to mention the Core Audio (A total mystery to me at the moment ;)
Looking forward to the scons stuff. Good luck with it!
Nick/.
