Ah, I'd forgotten about the audio recording limit.

That did prevent you from eating up the whole disc by accident, but I'm 
not sure it was entirely worth the pain.  The problem is that the limit 
was fairly arbitrary and you never remembered to check it before 
recording, so you always started recording and then had to stop again 
and reset the limit.  Like the composition duration, but worse because 
it only applied to the one thing.

What might work would be to make the fixed ending optional (if it isn't 
difficult to do) and so keep in all the code for both audio and MIDI 
countdowns with fixed endings, and then perhaps keep the audio 
recording limit for the non-fixed-ending case but with a rather longer 
default.  Twenty minutes instead of five, or something.  Trouble is 
that's quite a lot of disc space already.

We _do_ need to make the whole thing cope more gracefully with running 
out of disc space.
