I think the people I was talking about do not use "cracked" anything and were genuinely interested in having a native Windows port of Rosegarden. > Huge problem of Win* is unpredictable delays and big latency. > Main advantage of Linux+ALSA+Jack is possibility of realtime sound processing. As far as I know Windows does not have a huge problem with either latency or jitter. Latency on many Windows XP products is nowadays around 1-2milliseconds, with jitter being around 0.3ms. Examples: 1ms latency Windows XP, Nuendo PCI 96/52 soundcard, ASIO 2.0 drivers http://mixonline.com/products/new/audio_new_hardwaresoftware_audio_2/ 1.3ms latency (2.8ms worst-case latency); 2ms peak jitter Windows XP, Creative SBLive soundcard ** http://www.cs.hmc.edu/~bthom/publications/NIME_04.pdf 1.5ms latency Windows XP/2000, RME Hammerfall DSP MADI PCI card http://www.synthax.com/rmehdspMADI.html 1.5ms latency Windows XP, VSTi plugins for real-time audio effects http://www.spinaudio.com/products.php?id=38&page=description 2ms latency Windows XP, Creative Audigy 2 Platinum EX 6.1 soundcard, ASIO 2.0 drivers http://geek.pricegrabber.com/search_techspecs_full.php/masterid=687417 5ms latency Windows XP, Maya 44 USB soundcard http://www.alcatech.com/html/digi_en/ William ------------------------------------------------------- SF.Net email is sponsored by: Discover Easy Linux Migration Strategies from IBM.
