The old configure script used to (or still does, if you still use it) 
print out warnings when it found that you didn't have something 
interesting installed.  You can see the set of warnings at the end of 
configure.in.in, they're things like

echo "* Rosegarden uses the JACK audio server for audio recording and"
echo "sequencing.  See http://jackit.sf.net/ for more information about"
echo "getting and installing JACK.  If you want to use Rosegarden only"
echo "for MIDI, then you do not need JACK."

Anyone have the time to make scons configure print out the same 
warnings?
