Hi,

There is a new Percussion Matrix editor in current CVS HEAD. This new feature
recently implemented by Chris (big kudos!) is similar to the old Matrix
editor, but showing the note names instead of a piano keyboard, among other
differences. The note names can be edited using Composition -> Studio ->
Manage MIDI Devices window, or ...

If you was a former (or even actual) Cakewalk/Sonar user, you may be
interested in a Perl script named 'scripts/ins2rgd.pl', originally written by
Scott Doty to convert .ins files containing instrument definitions for
Cake/Sonar into .rgd files suitable for the near coming Rosegarden 1.2
release. The usage is simple:

                ins2rgd.pl original.ins | gzip > converted.rgd

I have updated the script, adding to it the ability to convert key mappings
and controller lists, and I've used it to generate new instrument definitions
for my Roland SC-88 and my JV-80. You can find the new .rgd files in
'gui/library' as usual.

Some advices about the .ins file format. The script recognizes four divisions,
each one delimited by a line starting with a period:

.Patch Names
.Note Names
.Controller Names
.Instrument Definitions

Other divisions are simply ignored (there is no support yet for RPN/NRPN
controllers in Rosegarden). Inside each division may be any number of
sections with a general format like this:

[Section]
key1=value1
key2=value2
...

The exception is "Instrument Definitions", where should be only one section
defining only one instrument per file. You may want to edit your .ins files
erasing any other instrument definition, and unneeded sections elsewere.

Please report any problem using the script to this mailing list.

Regards,
Pedro
