I think it's on the transport toolbar in all the edit views, but not the main
window. I forget what the logic was on that.

True, and I and a few others whined about this two years ago, at some length.
I don't remember what your (collective) answer was, but it amounted to
"abandon all hope, work around it, and STFU."

I thought then, and still do, that a row of solo LEDs parallel to the mutes
would be a splendid idea. Going into solo mode solos all tracks that have
their solo lit; just the opposite of mute. Color them orange or green or
something and redo the solo icons to echo that color.

However, in defense of our current interface, it's not quite fair to call it a
"very real problem" I don't think. Our current scheme is perfectly workable,
if tedious, and it's well-documented, and has been for ages (probably written
right after the idea got crapped all over around two years ago):

The solo button forces the Transport to play only whatever track is
currently selected at the moment, independent of its mute state. (To
"solo"
more than one part, you'll need to set the mute for tracks
individually, or
by using Tracks -> Mute All Tracks and then un-muting the parts you
         desire.)

There's room to make it much less tedious, but I don't think tedium per se
constitutes a real problem in the same way that, say, broken grace notes do,
or that damn problem with certain notes not printing which has been lingering
since before 1.0 (I just noticed that one the other day, and it's still
around.)

In the scheme of things, I think there are plenty of things we should look at
first unless this turns out to be extremely trivial and quick to implement.
Having said that, I'd still like to see it.
