Hi team,

I will simply describe here what i tried to get Rosegarden working on my Sun platform, it means that can be similar for all strict Unix systems, which doesn't have an Alsa capable kernel.

1) aRTs : Rosegarden plays fine .rg and .mid, i can stop and restart but, for a reason, DCOP itself doesn't receive the "done" signal for each note after release, and continue to play all notes simultaneously, even i exited from the GUI. I tried to modify all parameters i found in artswrapper, artsbuilder (attack, decay, release, done), also in the GUI of Rosegarden (duration, etc.), but nothing helped.

2) Actually i'm working to get Brahms working, which use also aRTS like Rosegarden, to understand what happen exactly with DCOP : i think that the problem is between DCOP and aRTs, or between aRTs and rosegardensequencer, but not between DCOP and my midiport (/dev/audio), because halting artswrapper stops the sound.

3) As ultimate way i installed Rosegarden-2.1.pl4 : it doesn't recognize my midiport, but Timidity can and Rosegarden-2.1 works fine with an actual version of Timidity :-D . And it looks good, since it doesn't have all features of RG-4, and can be sufficient to only compose music (the notes are played like an acoustic piano).

About this, and waiting that a definitive API is found (Jack, aKode,...) for the general Unix systems, i think that a good thing should be to have on Rosegarden-4 the same feature as RG-2, i mean the direct access to an external softsynth, even not modular, like Timidity.

Cheers,

Sergio
