I think I'm gonna hang myself. See attached screenshot. I've tried loading a 15mn long audio segment (both from the 'manage audio files' dialog or by dropping it on the canvas), zooming it to 2000% (which yielded a 20000 pixels wide rect) and it displayed just fine, no matter the zoom level. I was thinking that maybe because of some race condition the generated previews are flat (only zeroes) in your case, but the slew of Bad Drawable errors make me think that I'm most likely hitting a limit of your X server (since pixmaps are stored in X mem).
