This is a new one on me.  I'm aware of a similar problem with DSSI synth 
plugin tracks needing a kick start similar to what you describe.  That's 
supposed to have been fixed, I think, but I just noticed that it appears to 
still exist.

Maybe they're related.  I have no idea, and can't really comment.  Forwarding 
to the devel list.
