I finally got my MIDI keyboard back up, and had a good whack at G's new spooty auto-expanding canvas. Some comments...
* the progress dialog is probably redundant, and since it also causes focus problems as to what the space bar does (depending on whether the coundown dialog or the transport or the main window has focus), we might just dump it. (Although the "recording past end" thing was an appropriate thing to do under the circumstances.) Do we still need an "audio remaining" kind of thing as the dialog was originally conceived to provide? I hacked it to *also* report about MIDI as a stopgap way to remind people about the brick wall, but we can almost certainly un-hack that, and might could just abolish the audio limit entirely. Does anybody really want or need some annoying arbitrary, artificially-imposed limit on their audio recording? When Rich came up with that, it was like 2001 or so, and a 40 GB hard drive was pretty big. I just bought a 300 GB drive for less than I paid for a 40 GB a few years ago. OTOH, a lot of our users are using crappy old computers with 10 GB drives on their PII-233 with 16 K of RAM [sic], because Linux is good on crappy old computers, and/or they live in countries where they can't afford anything better on $300 a month to feed a family of four. * I noticed some weird with punch in/punch out. I punched in/out about five times, and then somewhere around bar... Hrm... It looks like it jumps by 5-10 bars ahead when you pass the end. In this window, you can be punched out, and then punch back in, and keep going, but if you miss your window, it stops. This is a little weird, but I'm not at all convinced there's anything actually worth complaining about. All in all, this auto-expanding thing RRRRRRRR OOOOOOO CCCCCCCCCC KK KK SSSSSS RR RR OO OO CC KK KK SS SS RR RR 00 OO CC KK KK SS RR RR 00 00 CC KK KK SS RRRRRRRR OO OO CC KK KK SS RR RR 00 00 CC KKKK SS RR RR 00 00 CC KK KK SS RR RR 00 00 CC KK KK SS RR RR 00 00 CC KK KK SS RR RR 00 00 CC KK KK SS SS RR RR 0000000 CCCCCCCCCC KK KK SSS <CARTMAN>Kick ass!</CARTMAN> -- D.
